Dinner here on Friday evening was a mixed experience - the place was the busy, lively, casual setting we expected so we weren't too bothered that the tables are small and cramped. The staff were warm and friendly and some of the food was very good (the scallops starter with miso glaze, sweet potato and smoked bacon, and the black garlic roast chicken) and some average. The cocktails were a bit disappointing - Slap'n'tickle was a hit but the Long mango tasted mainly sweet with only a hint of alcohol and the Beeta-Rita was tasted by all of us and then abandoned (maybe that's what you get for ordering a cocktail featuring beetroot). The weakest part throughout was the service - the friendliness couldn't make up for the long pauses and haphazard performance. We got the sense that either they were a waiter short or they just under-staff. When our friends arrived there was a long wait for their drinks order to be taken and it needed a reminder to get the drinks when our starters arrived. The table wasn't re-laid between the courses and they didn't notice we had no cutlery when the mains were served. They cleared half our table when we finished but never came back for the rest - we had to ask for it to be done about ten minutes later. There were very few desserts offered (and two were carrot or red velvet cake - not really a post-dinner dessert) so we didn't bother. Good coffee though. Finally, when paying, the waiter forgot whose card he'd just processed moments after I'd handed back the machine - he waved it vaguely across the table so not much attention to customers there. We managed to enjoy ourselves there but didn't really enjoy Balans. A shame because it could be much better if the service (and dessert menu) delivered.

The evening was great, the waiter was very accomodating, giving us ample time before we ordered as we were two friends who hadn't seen each other in so long and had a lot to catch up on!
I had two starters which wasn't a problem, I had he arrancini which were delicious, the scallops which were also very tasty but only 3 small scallops, i would have liked a few more.
My friend had the burger and spoke highly of that. We each had 2 cocktails from a great selection which were good but didn't taste like they had any alcohol in them at all. Could be a little stronger!
All in all a great experience. Service was fabulous and the food and drink was too.

Excellent food, great service, buzzing place, not for a quite time, reasonable prices. The only criticism was after spending over £200 on three people we were not thanked at existing the restaurant. In fact there was no one at the door/entrance.

All our starter and main selections were fantastic, the waiter was friendly and couldn't be more helpful and the restaurant looked fabulous and had a great atmosphere.

What a find! We loved this little gem of a café from the moment we entered. The staff were so welcoming and charming. The food was delicious, I had the burger which was one of the best ever! My date had some smaller dishes duck tacos, a salmon dish and a vegetable flatbread they were all really delicious. We had a very nice bottle of wine suggested by our waiter. The interior is slightly mismatched, but very cool. It was excellent all around we can't say enough good things about it.
