We came to Balans for dinner before going out on my friends hen night. The staff were all amazing, so welcoming and lovely! They made sure there was a special cocktail waiting for the bride to be on arrival, and they brought us over a few rounds of shots on the house as well. We had some 'hen dare cards' which they found hilarious and helped us out with too. Food wise - we all had steaks, and these were absolutely amazing and well worth the money! Amazing food and amazing cocktails too (I would recommend the Amaretto sour personally!) - we would also really recommend the Malbec for any red wine drinkers, it was delicious. We had an absolutely brilliant time and couldn't fault it at all. Perfect food, drinks and above all perfect service. I will definitely be back and next time I fancy trying the brunch!

The restaurant is very convenient for the theatre I was attending that night which was the prime reason for choosing it. The menu look interesting, serving the sort of small plates which are what we needed at that time of day. (18:00) we were three people and for a reason understood best by the staff we were seated on a table opposite the bar and next to the clean up station. This made it extra noisey as the expert cocktail waiter was busy making delicious but noisy cocktails and the clean up staff had a bit of trouble controlling the crashing of the dirty dishes, there were plenty of other tables available for three people and we wondered if it was because we were an older party rather than young hipsters.nevertheless out waiter was friendly and helpful pointing out the day's special cocktail which was delicious. We choose 4 small plates for three of us but later added an order of bread as between the three it was not quite enough food. We had scallops, vegetable pride, fried chicken wings and another. The food was tasty but not overwhelming. But it served its purpose, we had a fairly tasty meal, not terrifically original, a cocktail and couple of glasses of wine. The staff were attentive but to be honest the noise level was deafening. I know it is fashionable but this was just a bit too much.

The restaurant was lovely. The staff were so nice and kind and couldn't do enough for us. I spilled my cocktail and 3 people hurried to check I was ok and clean up - and they replaced my drink free of charge! My friend is quite picky with food and they were very accommodating. I asked for extra avocado and they put it in my meal, rather than on the side (but checked first). I had the eggs Benedict and they were delicious!

Lovely cocktail -Secret of Provence. Pre Theatre drink. Excellent location for Cambridge Theatre. Post theatre dinner, fish and chips lovely. Great vegetarian option. Staff friendly but go easy on the up selling, it can be off putting.

Food excellent, great choice, lots of favourite standard dishes, could have chosen five different main courses. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Chicken with mashed potato felt just like 'mamma used to make'. Reasonable price. Couldn't fault it.

We had an early, pre-theatre meal with friends, having had "test", working lunch here a few weeks ago which I had enjoyed. We had three mains - the burger (which was rated 'brilliant'); the salmon - 'very good' though the accompanying noodles were a little over-generously salty) and the crab linguine - delicious. Service was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Deserves to do well (it was surprisingly quiet even though it was early).
