Lunch for two was perfectly cooked and presented, the fish as always here perfectly fresh. The premises are rather cramped and the tables pretty basic, but the atmosphere and service are friendly and over many years I have never had a meal here which was less than excellent.

The things that didn't attract me on the restaurant it was the service, people looks opaque, just doing they service. There is no engagement, not a simple "how is your meal?". And the other is the price, too expensive for a meal with this service.

The food was excellent - having been there 2 years ago , was delighted to return and experience the excellent menu. It is a tiny restaurant and not a lot of elbow room however after a few glasses of wine, you forget about this. Ate there a couple of summers ago when the tables spilled out on to the streets which heightened the experience.

Everything about this restaurant sings with perfection! I made a bit of an error when booking - I booked during a weekday thinking the Xmas menu was available, when actually it was only available on weekends - However the kind people there allowed us to have the Xmas menu anyway! Genuine, personal and friendly service is always at hand, perfectly complimenting the delicious fish dishes (although they also cater for those who don't eat fish!). I would recommend Back To Basics to ANYBODY who is in Central London and hungry!
