The restaurant was very crowded when we got there and extremely noisy, which was quite off-putting because we found it difficult to talk to each other across the table. We had to wait a very long time before a waiter came anywhere near us and we had to ask for menus as we were not given any on arrival. It took a long time again to get someone's attention so that we could order our food. When the food came it was very good, so no problems there. When it came to dessert, our pregnant friend had set her heart on one dessert, which it turned out they did not have. She made a second selection and the waiter then returned to say that they also did not have her second choice. She was very disappointed and was the only person on our table then not to have a dessert, which was a shame. A couple of ladies in our party were also trying to slim and there are very few dishes that are low fat on offer.

I hadn't dined at Ask Old Town for a few years. The decor is new and does not compliment the age of the building. It looks more like a John Lewis cafe than a cosy Italian restaurant. It is very noisy even when it is not really busy, very bad acoustics!! Our cold bottle of wine was served with boiling hot glasses straight out of the dishwasher so that killed the chill of the wine straight away.

The food was pretty grim too. I had a Chicken and Mushroom pasta with no chicken and very little taste. Garlic bread was bland and undercooked.

Not rushing bad there anytime soon!!

We had an evening meal - the atmosphere was quite quiet and relaxing and the meal was superb. Can't wait to visit again.

Ate at 8pm on a Thursday, group of 5 friends. Staff v friendly and quick to take your initial order, then they seemed to disappear. Slow to come back to offer dessert. Same on my last visit a few months ago, when we abandoned desserts and coffee in the end. Quite noisy (probably as we ate in the conservatory) which can make it difficult to follow the conversation. However, food good (portions on the smaller size)and the white wine recommended on their menu was excellent and a decent price. If the service was more consistent then I would recommend this place.
