Situated just 7 miles from the cathedral city of Ely in Cambridgeshire, the AA Rosette-awarded Anchor Inn at Sutton Gault offers 21st century British cuisine within a 17th century building. The restaurant is critically acclaimed and recognised by most major food publications, including the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide. The Anchor Inn's interior is a trip back in time; pine tables balance on uneven floors, gas lamps flicker and there is even an open fire in winter. The modern British menu includes meals such as smoked pigeon breast with mizuna leaves, ostrich steak with herbed couscous and goat's cheese soufflé with tomato chutney are modern and inventive. Desserts are equally dynamic; choose from sweets such as cappuccino pannacotta and baked smoked camembert. For a cosy and intimate ambience, come and dine in this exceptional family-run English inn.

Nice food, bit out of the way to get to. Very tender roast beef. Good vegetables. Overall very good. Would probably return as there are very few good places to eat in this region.

Dinner for 8 pm. Good food but maybe a bit more veg, or staff saying/offering veg

We booked for a table at 7.45 and whilst early we were seated immediately. Have been many times, food is always excellent. The beer was very good too. Only criticism this time was that the service was a little slow and not very attentive.

We came here one evening to celebrate an anniversary (which was never referred to/catered for even though we had put this on our booking). We started off outside but had to come inside as there was no light and no heater which was a shame. The food was fairly expensive but each course was absolutely superb, and the service good. We would definitely dine here again as our meal was faultless.

We saw this restaurant come up under the top UK restaurant list on Bookatable.com and thought we'd try it out, as it's in the village where our friends live in the Fens. It's not the cheapest place in the world, but we were definitely not disappointed. We had pheasant, game (venison) and turkey and they were all absolutely amazing. The cake for dessert was great too and even had proper custard! The only thing I would say is that we did have to wait quite a bit between courses, but they were quite busy and the food was definitely worth the wait. The staff were really friendly and helpful too.
