All excellent including very nice efficient staff. Extremely accommodating to my gluten free & dairy free dietary requirements. Truly lovely meal.

Lovely restaurant, obviously very popular with locals. There was a good buzzing atmosphere while we were there. The food was pretty good but not 100%. I had a red snapper for my main that I think must have been over-cooked because it was quite tough. There were some interesting and unusual flavours (a watermelon and bubblegum palate cleaner after the main course that was surprisingly nice and refreshing). The staff were very friendly and attentive, but not annoyingly so.

We chose to go to the Anchor for Valentines' night as we have been to the restaurant on numerous occasions and been very pleased with the food, ambience and service. However, last night was very different. There was no atmosphere and the food was disappointing. The menu had looked great so we were really looking forward to it. My wife started with the pigeon but it was overcooked and a bit tough. We put that down to being just one of those things. However her red snapper en papilotte was inedible - the fish was overcooked and the pastry undercooked and the Thai green curry sauce just tasted of lemon and there was no hint of curry at all. At this point we pointed it out to the staff who apologised and offered an alternative which we was declined. The pudding though was to die for which went part way to redeeming the meal. Was this just a bad night in the kitchen? Probably.

This ancient inn has been very tastefully converted into a restaurant that has lots of atmosphere. There are plenty of tables but still a feeling of informality and intimacy. The front of house staff that we met were all young but gave us an excellent service throughout the evening. The food here is not cheap but we found it to be very good indeed, and beautifully presented. Personally, I think that the main courses could have been a little more generous in their helpings but the starters and desserts were spot on in this respect. Dates wrapped in bacon with a mustard sauce? Superb, as was the duck breast that my wife chose for her main. The mash that came with the cod supreme was another highlight, but the gold medal goes to our two desserts - the creme brûlée and panna cotta were amongst the best we have ever eaten. We will certainly book again.

I booked online and received a confirmation. Te whole process was very easy. The lunch represented good value and the service and ambience was was excellent. If anything we found the wine to be a little "pricey" for the quality. Otherwise an enjoyable experience.

A lovely meal and cosy venue, service was very good.
However, the only lunch menu shown on your website was for the taster lunch, we were not given the option of this.

We had a lovely tasty meal. The whitebait starter was big. Dates in bacon with the mustard sauce were just right. The roast beef was tender and extra leeks with cheese sauce added to already tasty vegetables. Butternut squash dish tasty after salt was added. Wines were good quality and no room for pudding. View of the outdoors spoilt by someone parking their car right by the window- it was a grey day but......it was busy but service good.

Excellent food and service. Took my daughter, her husband and my 9-month old grandson for Sunday lunch and were treated very well.
