I don't know a Michelin star from a Dunlop tyre, but I can assure you that my meal at the Anchor, was probably the best presented, most deliciously tasting food I have ever eaten.

My dining partner and I had a wonderful evening at the Anchor. The setting is lovely, the service was great, and the food was wonderful. We will definitely visit again in the near future.

Lovely environment, fantastic, freshly cooked and unpretentious food with a twist. Excellent service and very reasonably priced.

The evening was everything that one hopes for when one goes out. The restaurant occupies a great location and even the weather was splendid too. The atmosphere in the dining rooms was pleasant; rustic in feel. The staff were most friendly and efficient. There was a pleasant buzz in the dining rooms which were well patronized. We took quite a time to choose from the menu. Indecision seemed to reign. It all seemed so nice. When it came, the food was excellent. The three of us enjoyed every mouthful. Imaginative, well cooked and attractively arranged, we enjoyed all three courses. The steak that two of us ordered were quite the best we have eaten, with the possible exception of those eaten in Argentina. But this is not surprising since the beef here was grass fed as it is, or was, in Argentina. The quality and taste was simply superb.

The service at table was attentive without in any way being intrusive. As far as we were concerned the evening was an unqualified success. We were made to feel at home, well looked after and served a delicious meal. We had not eaten at the Anchor for many years, but we shall hope to return there soon.

Food was very good, drinks were good too with a very good choice, although the dry sherry was not chilled properly and arrived at the table tepid. Dates in bacon are a real winner, and the desserts too were excellent.

My party of 8 people ate mains and desserts and drank beer and cider. All very good quality and well-presented by friendly and competent staff. Overall about 30% more expensive than average hostelries in the area but this was reflected in the quality of the food and preparation, the presentation and the ambience - worth the extra in my opinion. About 40 minute wait for the first course although the restaurant was not full but we were quite a large party.
