Overall, the experience was great. The only small issue I had was with the blinds on the windows. As it was a sunny day, the blinds were pulled down but they did not actually block out the sunshine completely. When we arrived I just moved one seat along. However, as time passed, of course the sun moved and I needed to move around a little to avoid the sunlight in my eyes but it did not spoil our enjoyment of the dining and, as we were leaving shortly, it was not a major problem.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. I have coeliac disease and ordered the Beef Stovie (gluten free) and the Lemon Curd Mousse with Toasted Marshmallow and Blackcurrant Sauce (gluten free). Both were wonderful. My husband had the Butternut Squash Pearl Barley Risotto, Tomato Fondue and Cheese Shavings as well as the Highland Hot Chocolate. He didn't really comment on the Risotto but loved the Hot Chocolate. We were in a bit of a hurry and they were great about getting to us quickly. I didn't think this through though when ordering the Beef Stovie because it came piping hot out of the oven and I had to let it cool a bit before eating. Still it was really tasty. The Lemon Curd Mousse had a light lemon curd flavor and the Toasted Marshmallow reminded me of a meringue in texture but was a thin sheet and tasted like a marshmallow.

Due to my raving cold I could barely smell anything, but I managed to catch some of the flavours. Food and service were very good. Definetly will return with a clearer nose in order to take also the whisky tasting tour.

This was the perfect way to begin the new year. Exceptional food, fantastic service and the whisky was second to none. Can't wait to come back to Edinburgh.
