A charming restaurant in the heart of Islington, Almeida showcases an ingredient-led menu, offering modern British food with French influences. The floor-to-ceiling French doors allow light to flood into the light and airy dining room, while the semi-open kitchen lets you see what’s going on behind the scenes.

Listed in the Top 10 Best Restaurants for theatre dining in London by The Evening Standard as well as being listed in the top 150 restaurants in The Daily Telegraph’s Good Food Guide, Almeida in Islington is a traditional neighbourhood eatery, oozing finesse but with a relaxed atmosphere.

Michelin-trained head chef Tommy Boland brings with him a wealth of experience to the Almeida kitchen. Starter dishes include tarte fine of onion with morels, new season onions and wild garlic, loin and cheek of pork with caramelised endive, turnips and roasting juices, and lemon posset with raspberry & doughnuts.

Tucked away just off Islington’s vibrant Upper Street and located directly opposite the iconic Almeida Theatre, this sophisticated dining hotspot offers classy pre and post-theatre menus alongside a daily changing a la carte and impressive Sunday roast menu.

A charming hidden gem, Almeida in London is found 10 minutes' walk from Highbury & Islington and Angel Tube stations.

First time my husband & I had been to this restaurant. We were both impressed with the staff who were both helpful and pleasant.
For example my napkin fell off my lap onto the floor, as I am not very tall, I would have had to get off my chair to retrieve it. The waiter saw the napkin on the floor, not only picked it up for me but replaced it with a clean one.
Brilliant location for the Almeida Theatre!

We immediately formed a very positive impression since we received a charming welcome and the spacious dining room is both elegant and comfortable. The Christmas tree was decorated unusually with distinctively different decorations. This was a pre theatre dinner and wonderful to be opposite the theatre. The set menu had 3 excellent choices for each of three possible courses. Two of us chose the starter featuring a selection of beets beautifully presented and very appetising with a couple of tasty sauces hidden away amongst the variety of vegetation. Really good. Two of us chose the sea bream which again was delicious. One of my friends was very impressed with her beef pie - a round pastry item with beef inside. The puddings were hard to choose between. I think we tasted all three between us and were very satisfied. I chose the panacotta which had a dollop of coffee something on top, white chocolate sauce and lovely crisp crumbs. My only comment is that I would have preferred the coffee ice to taste more recognisably of coffee. The slices of cheesecake and chocolate were long and thin and very special. Full marks to the restaurant for their welcome and excellent service.

Booked at random but what a lovely experience. Chose the pre theatre menu option. Arrived to find a beautifully decorated restaurant. Soft lighting and tables not too close to each other. Lots of staff on hand and very attentive all evening. The food was delicious. Taste and presentation exceptional. Excellent value for money. Overall a wonderful dining experience. I will be back!

This was a great meal. Each dish was a fantastic merging of flavours .The whole being a lot more than its parts and really accomplished cooking. Also, as ever, the peaceful and generously spaced dining room meant I and my companion could enjoy a long and intense conversation without having to shout to be heard and without any sense that the staff wanted to hurry us along.

We had not been to the Almeida for a few years and the décor had changed. More casual, no table clothes but still a little upmarket. A little expensive given the casual dining. The food was well presented, not excessively large portions. The menu had a number of selections in all categories. The service was very good, timely & efficient.

Lovely meal, beautiful fresh ingredients and good value with the pre-theatre set menu.

Total disappointment wanted to go here for sometime. Initially very attentive but courses were rushed and we had to chase for refills. There were 7 other diners in there and the staff spent their time cleaning cutlery on empty tables. Perhaps because we had the two course/prosecco deal?
The meals were tiny, as expected, but unlike a flavoursome gastro meal we had to fill up with bread.
To top it we were supposed to pay £8 service charge
