Described as ‘very special’ by critic Jay Rayner in his ruthless Guardian column, Allium showcases European haute cuisine from rising-star chef, Chris Staines. Look out onto the idyllic hotel grounds from the bright and airy dining room.

After holding a Michelin star for 7 years at London’s Foliage restaurant, Staines bring his exemplary cooking skills to Allium restaurant in Bath. Championing market-fresh produce and culinary flair, the Allium menu presents innovative dishes like chilli & caramel-glazed quail with Chinese cabbage, or slow-cooked pork belly with spiced black pudding and crushed carrots.

As well as a Sunday lunch menu offering high-end twists on the great British roast, the Allium afternoon tea menu features quirky treats. Alongside premium JING teas and fresh sandwiches, sample delicate macarons and peanut butter crunch biscuits.

A crisp, whitewashed setting filled with mauve furnishings and bold modern artwork, Allium is housed in the Best Western Abbey Hotel. Bath Spa Rail Station is a 3-minute walk away.

    Superb. Perfect after shopping at Christmas markets and such a buzz about town when we were there

    Lovely setting unfortunately spoilt by a large party using the adjoining room. 15 minutes of a raffle being projected through a loud speaker spoilt what could have been a pleasant meal. Fis and chips excellent. Other mains good. Excellent wine by the glass list.

    Was a special meal to say thank you to two friends. Been looking forward to dining here for ages. Three phone calls during the day to check we were still dining. Shame the same enthusiasm for our custom didn't match the service at our table. Food great, service not so much. Too much time spent on larger parties in the dining room.

    We have chosen the 3 courses meal for dinner - Each course was full of ideas, many different taste in each plate, very interesting !
    I chose the pork as main dish, meat was excellent but it was a bit too sweet for me and same for the dessert (Lemon posset).
    So if you like "sweet and salty" dishes, you will like it !
