Over all the experience was remarkable. We had the afternoon tea and the service was impeccable. The venue is very central for the city and even though it was Friday there was no pressure to complete the meal. I would recommend.

Harpist left and packed up well before our afternoon tea session was finished and recorded music played instead. Great personal service from our waitress and attention to detail. However, we were guests in the last afternoon tea session of the day and the staff were busy working all around us and the rest of the remaining customers to set up the unused tables for the evening dining sessions. This spoiled the relaxing atmosphere and made us feel rushed.

had a 4pm booking. had been before for tea but last time there was a function in the homage tea room. as we entered the tea room we were greeted by a lady playing the harp. we chose the tea we wanted and tea and finger sandwiches arrived.there were five finger sandwiches each. we were offered more sandwiches which we accepted another six finger sandwiches arrived three each. then a 3 tiered silver stand arrived, there were two scones each and seven selections of small cakes. we had two pots of tea each and took the cakes away in a box that we couldn't eat. two gripes would be that the harpist left at 4.30pm and then they were preparing the tables for dinner.

I arrived on time but I had to wait for a staff member to come and confirm my reservation. The tea was served at the same place I had dinner last September. I was seated soon after my reservation was confirmed and was given a menu of drinking teas to choose from.
The music was relaxing and not intrusive. There was a live harpist who played John Lennon's Imagine while I waited followed by some other pleasant tunes such as Coldplay's Clocks and Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. My drinking tea order was taken 10 minutes after I was seated and the waiter gave me the main afternoon tea menu. He asked which tea I was having and I confirmed it was the classic tea, which I had specifically booked for so it was slightly disappointing about him seeming unaware of this. I was shortly brought my tea and sandwiches. I ate all sandwiches except the salmon since I don't like salmon and all of which were delicious. The roobios tea was also lovely. A little while later the waiter asked me if I wanted more sandwiches and I said yes to all four except the salmon. They arrived along with the cakes but I was disappointed to see there were two salmon ones included when I didn't ask for them, so I just left them. The scones came with a generous amount of jam, which had an unusual consistency but still tasted great, and cream while the selection and cakes was interesting. The scones, lemon drizzle cake, brownie and caramel macaron were especially good. When I finished, the waiter offered me more tea to drink but I declined and asked for the bill instead. It arrived quickly but the collection of payment was slower. The arrival of change was slightly quicker.

Overall good cakes and sandwiches for the most part, calming ambience apart from when the fire alarm went off briefly, decent service and friendly, knowledgeable if somewhat inattentive staff. A previous reviewer found one waiter hard to understand and I could see why if I was served by the same one. 4/5.

We arrived in wet coats, they were taken from us and hung up on a coat rack. We was shown to our table. The waitress came back to take our order, but we wasn't ready. She came back a bit later and took our order. The sandwiches arrived first, followed by our tea about 3 minutes later - tea should always be served before the sandwiches. We was asked if we wanted any more sandwiches - mu husband said yes - they arrived quite quickly. Then the tierred cake plates arrived - we had trouble to understand what the waiter said about them, so we asked again, but we still couldn't understand what he said. There wasn't very much cream or jam for 4 scones, although we only ate 2 of them. We was asked if we wanted any more tea - to which we both said yes - I wanted the same tea - which was just my original pot 'topped up' with hot water - very weak, and my husband asked for a different tea - but he got the same as me - the same pot just 'topped up'. When the bill arrived we said about the service and had the service charge removed. There was no one around to give us our coats when we left, so we took them ourselves. I wouldn't recommend this afternoon tea because of the items above. We have had much better afternoon cream teas for a fraction of the cost. I bought this as a treat for my husband on Valentines Day, and I was not impressed at all, neither was my husband.
