Such a lovely treat! The food was delicious, the surroundings very fitting and the staff discreetly attentive. To cap it off, we got what we couldn't eat in the coolest takeaway boxes - looked like a mini hat box, all beautifully themed.

Even though we arrived early for our booking, we had to wait 30 minutes because guests had overrun. Once seated the service was poor even though the dining room was three quarters full with 5 waiting staff as well as additional plating staff. The food when it arrived was nice but there was a long wait for tea and coffee. It was really disappointing for the price compared to other less expensive afternoon tea in Manchester.

We booked the midland for a champagne afternoon tea to celebrate my future daughter in laws wedding in two weeks time . We hoped it would be a little bit special for her , and we weren't disapointed !!! The sandwiches , scones and cakes were delicious , champagne perfect , and staff really welcoming and professional , ambiance of the midland itself , wonderful !! So glad we chose this hotel

Friendly and enthusiastic staff. Beautifully decorated room but a little background music would be nice as you can't hear the pianist outside.
Trying too hard with the tea blends, the English breakfast tasted like vanilla, we all just wanted a simple tea to wash down the sandwiches of which there was a nice selection.
The scones would be nicer served warm after the sandwiches but ours all came together. Good selection of cakes.

Food and presentation excellent. The only issue I felt was that the service was slow for checking back for our drinks, my booking was 2.00pm we had our first tea and coffee at 3.15pm which was fine but had to wait until 3.00pm to get another hot drink by trying to get the waitress attention. The waitress seemed to be in and out of the tea room taking orders. Also the way the jam is given out is to time consuming for the server and should be left at the table in small dishes. The service from the waitress was excellent but I felt she was under a bit of pressure as it was quite busy and eye contact was not being given in case they were called to the table.
I will return as the experience was very good .

Lovely new tea room and have to say, I was very impressed. The decor is light, airy, fresh and inviting. A stunning makeover to provide an upmarket venue for the ever popular Afternoon Tea market. Much nicer than where it was served before, in the dull dark concourse area. I am an Afternoon Tea expert, having partaken many at various locations. This ranks at the top, alongside two more places. It's those finishing touches that add to the experience. Candles in the fireplace, linen napkins, which were placed on our laps by the attentive waitress. Beautiful fresh white flowers on the table. Coloured flowers would have looked garish. I am pleased to see you haven't overpriced the Afternoon Tea, therefore making it appealing and affordable. The waitress was attentive and had a good knowledge of the food served. Impressed with unlimited tea and coffee and the range of teas and coffees. Sandwiches were served without crusts, just as they should be and were delicious all except one! Which was the cucumber and pickle in rye bread. Cakes were delicious, again all except the polenta poppyseed cake. But this is just my personal taste. Would say just keep an eye on the sandwiches being returned, to gauge their popularity. Prawn and crayfish sandwich was delicious. Good selection of very attractive looking cakes. Scones could maybe be a bit smaller, to blend in with the tiny sandwiches and cakes. Jam was served by the waitress out of a bowl. Which slopped all over the plate and also on the white flower arrangement and the tablecloth. Not the waitresses fault, the jam was very runny. This really needs refining. You have to choose which jam you want from the waitress. I have never had to do this before, a bit strange I have to say. Just put a selection of the three jams in some sort of dish, then we can try them all. Or put those small jam pots on the table. Was nice to see the chef working alongside the waitresses. Tea Room at The Midland = 9/10

Exquisite Afternoon Tea in style at The Tea Room at The Midland. Excellent variety of sandwiches, cakes and scones. The most fragrant Tea I have ever had, so beautiful. Just missed the Madeira wine.
