Afternoon tea was probably the best in London. Impeccable service, nice variety of sandwiches, cakes and scones. The "amuse bouche" was exceptional. We ate in the very comfortable lounge in lovely surroundings.

We very much appreciated the tea. It was especially appreciated the extra effort that was made to accommodate my wife's allergies. The staff was very friendly and professional.

The staff were wonderfully friendly and attentive without being irritating and the afternoon tea exquisite. Couldn't fault anything. Gluten free requirements are taken very seriously and the bread, scones and cakes were delicious - hard to distinguish from the normal tea. A real treat and value for money in my opinion

Our son and daughter in law went to a garden party at Buckingham Palace yesterday and we agreed to come down from Yorkshire to look after the grandchildren, being half term. We thought that we should have a special tea too and chose The Goring especially, as the hotel's afternoon tea sounded good, it had a garden for the children to use and it was within walking distance of the Palace.. It was my wife's birthday and so - to amuse the children as much as anything else - I ordered a birthday cake in advance. I checked with the waiter who took our order that it was OK and again with the supervisor later on. Being a surprise it was difficult to keep asking. Nothing happened. Eventually I asked to speak to the Manager who was not available but I was able to complain to the head concierge. He was apologetic and offered complimentary drinks. Shortly after the head waiter came to offer an explanation. He said that the hotel policy is to wait until the table is cleared before bringing a cake. Fair enough, but we had waited well over half an hour after finishing tea and the table was eventually cleared without a cake. As it was by now about 5.45 the table was then reset for evening drinks. The head waiter's explanation therefore carried no conviction. The tea was good and I am always happy to pay for good food and good service, but we did not find this good value with such poor service. One other reason for choosing The Goring was that there is a garden which we thought would help to keep the children entertained while waiting for their parents to get back from the Palace. The garden was however closed yesterday afternoon for a private function and I do think that if a facility is offered it should be available.

The afternoon tea at the Goring was amazing. Every small detail was noticed and appreciated. My mum and I had a wonderful day. The staff made the experience that much better. They were attentive and kind.
