Iconic restaurant, we had the Great British Menu. Four well balanced courses beautifully presented. The Indian tiffin starter had authenticity but the Bhaji was slightly over seasoned. The hake and cockles were so well cooked 'on point' but the tartare could have a little more zing but I wanted great scraps, sadly I was disappointed on that score, 3 blobs of hard batter mix. Let's have proper crispy bits, when Chefs use Chicken skin , fish scraps and other "waste" to enhance the dish it needs to be amazing - sorry.
The beef was cooked beautifully, the flavour from the rib was sumptuous and great depth in the sauce too.
Finally the only time in my life I have made a reservation based on the dessert, I wanted to taste Adams creation ever since I saw it on GBM. I wasn't disappointed, even though the ?? had sank a little, it didn't detract from the amazing skill and flavours that Adam had combined to ensure a grande finale. The Apple snow perfectly complimented the sweet indulgence of the apple crumble as you delved inside. A total triumph of great theatre, and presentation but backed up by great taste, very hard to get everything perfect but this meal was close to having everything with just a few "minors".
Great wine, the Gewurtztraminer was stunning.
The whole experience was deserved of recognition, top class friendly service, great food everything on the plate was there for flavour and felt part of the dish, supported by 4 superb wines. Difficult to explain value for money, at this level you get what you pay for I suppose.
I have eaten in higher rated restaurants which couldn't match this. Sort out the wonky table ( booths are better) and add some linen table cloths and you never know what might happen!! Thank You Adam and team. PB

Overall the experience was good. The evening was partly celebrating my sons' birthday. All of the food was good but somehow lacked maybe the element of surprise, eg the broth (a gravy), bread (very ordinary) and flavoured spread/butter (bland) could have been bettered raising the flavours a tad. The dover sole was maybe not at it's best (I could smell it & really fresh fish shouldn't, difficult to obtain in land locked Manchester). We were also making a comparison with a restaurant that is no more, and that at this comparison was superior - Quill (still can't fathom why it closed). However the meal & service was very good & I'd eat here again.

We had a fabulous lunch at The French. We ate the 6 course tasting menu and enjoyed all of it. We also shared 1 cheese course which was no problem. We were also able to have Adam's sensational dessert of the Golden Apple from the Great British Menu which was amazing. Again no problem about sharing 1, in fact the staff suggested it.

A great experience. We chose the GB menu. Actually the people were the best feature of the experience tho everything was of a high standard. Appropriately attentive and friendly people that greeted us and then noticed what we needed at each stage and were one second ahead of us realising!! Great interior design that reminded you of the early days of the Midlands and is yet fully modern and stylish. My only mild disappointment was not to see Adam and meet the man behind these very special dishes. Favourite dish? It has to be the Golden Empire dessert. Wow.

Fantastic night at The French. Had the 9 course taster menu. Beautifully balanced, well presented menu - loved it all. Devoured by our 2 teenage boys - cleared their plates. Relaxed unpretentious atmosphere. Boys made to feel welcome. Husband had the somniers wine selection which worked beautifully. Need to find another special occasion to go back!
