Very attentive front of house and the sommelier sorted us out a flight of paired wines which complemented the excellent food. Adam Reid came out to talk to us about his ideas to develop the French and making it more accessible and dynamic by adding an open plan chef's finishing kitchen that can be seen from the restaurant.

A lovely setting within the Midland Hotel.. having read various reviews about The French, I decided to book this Restaurant to celebrate my Husband's special birthday. We have been fortunate to have previously dined at several fine dining restaurants including Michelin starred, and as such, we were looking forward to experiencing The French. However, whilst the culinary experience was interesting due to the menu; we felt that the overall experience lacked "ambience" (can be difficult to define) and a feeling of being warmly welcomed; being looked after and spoken to/informed about the menu - staff quickly placed the plate on the table and told you what was on it - ... In essence a lack of atmosphere and "personal" attention left us feeling slightly disappointed with the overall experience.

Wow wow wow.... This restaurant is amazing from arriving to leaving you are made to feel special and the food blew us both away. We are the Great British Menu and had high expectations from seeing this on the to show. Those expectations were blown away and increased ten fold. The quality of the food and the tastes and flavours were superb. And the wines that were paired with each dish were so well chosen. The staff have excellent knowledge of both the food and the wine and we will indeed look forward to our next visit. Thanks Adam Read and the staff.

First time at with this type of menu, I enjoyed all of the courses. My favourite being the steamed bun, and also the parsnip dishes. It was a full night out, my girlfriend loved every bit of it, it was a great night for her 30th
