We regularly visit here and it never disappoints. Service is exceptional and the Christmas menu was exquisite. A wonderful dining experience.

Went for the 3 course festive menu. 1st course chosen was smoked salmon with Horse raddish and rye bread - ld be lucky if there was any more than 30g of Salmon and the horse raddish was a mere few drops. The Rye bread was the equivalent to two parmasan shavings (no joke) and so was basically tasteless. Im not a chef but could have knocked this dish up myself in minutes. Disappointing considering it is badged under Michael Caines. Main course very good as a fancy roast beef. My wife had been looking forward to the mint choc chip ice cream, salted caramel and chocolate fondant but this combination just did not work. I had the same desert and at first we thought it was the salted caramel that didnt work with the ice cream however when my wife was given a second desert minus the caramel it was evident that it was the ice cream that was the mismatch. Portion size was no more than a teaspoon quinell of icecream with the fondant being a very minute one. Understand that a fine dining twist on a roast was never going to be a belly blowing meal but this was not good value. I have eaten much better fine dining food at a comparitively lower price. I would have liked to do the taster menu but after this first visit i probably wouldnt bother. I would imagine that if the basic titivated roast dinner doesnt knock your socks off then i wouldnt fancy paying much more for the taster menu. Drink was very pricey for the taste in return with the exception of the red that we were recommended. Champage was disappointing for 10 pound per glass. We ate at l' enclume in cartmell and were given a glass at 12 pound but it was fantastic as a comparison. Nice dining area but the whole experience didnt live up to the expectation we had prior to the visit. Staff were very friendly and efficient on the night. Overall 114 pound for a roast is really not worth it.

Service started out great however after the order was placed it went downhill. The glasses our water was poured in smelled as if it was cleaned with a damp dirty cloth. Our main was slammed down in the middle of the table with our starter plates pushed aside, this is even before we finished the starters. The main was undercooked to our request and was delivered lukewarm swimming in a pool of blood with a excessively garlic, congealed, cold gloopy Béarnaise sauce. I had to ask for a Steak knife, with what was received I had to saw though the now cold steak. After a few hard chewing bites I gave up on the rest of it. Will most certainly now stick to Miller & Carter for Steak.
