The food was delicious and was the perfect amount. However, we waited a very long time for our tea and had to ask 4 times before getting it. This meant we had started to eat some of our cakes but were holding off before we ate any more. The staff didn't seem to be particularly interested in us, after we were given the bill we had to go up to someone as no one came back to us so we could pay. However, it was a good afternoon and the food was lovely, just a shame about the service.

We took our mum here for Mother's Day and she loved it. We thought it was a really nice touch that they gave the mums a glass of champagne on arrival and a bunch of flowers when we left. Would definitely recommend. We had three courses including tea and coffee for under £25 per person. The rib of beef was lovely and you were served big portions.

    1. Preordered one vegetarian option in sandwiches - very unimaginative choice of egg or cucumber
    2. Preordered second option to exclude smoked salmon - only coronation chicken or cucumber provided
    In both above cucumber tasteless
    3. Cake selection ok, but had much better. Scones doughy, banoffee's good though.
I would like to suggest a few bits of fruit, would only need to be a few segments of satsuma, a few slices of kiwi, grapes, strawberry - these could act as palate cleansers with so much sweet things.
    Staff good, location good.
Overall extremely poor value for money - we treat ourselves to a lot of afternoon tea's and this has been the worst so far.

I had afternoon tea on Saturday with three of my sisters and it was a lovely experience. The tea, cakes and sandwiches were delicious and there was a brilliant selection. My sister is coeliac and her tea was just as delicious as ours. The staff were very attentive and could not do enough for us. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and I would highly recommend it. I will definitely be back again. Thank you.

We took the Festive Tea and were pleasantly surprised with the tea! We so enjoyed the festive variety after our hearts dropped on arrival seeing the 2 tv screens running on the wall making the atmosphere for afternoon tea an absolute zero. Why, oh why do bars think anyone wants or watches soundless TVs running non stop, it kills any ambience, please get with the programme? So old hat and you have to work at ignoring them. That said, the service after we were seated and after the tea arrived was excellent. I was given another glass of prosecco on the house; a very nice gesture. I have passed on to friends what a nice time we had, not being able to travel to London we are all staying 'local' this Xmas.

Service was incredibly slow and food took almost an hour to come out

    Good afternoon

Yesterday afternoon at 3pm I brought my family to your Waterhouse Bar as we were celebrating my daughter's 22nd birthday.

To say that I was disappointed is a huge understatement. The seats were very uncomfortable, but as its an old hotel that, I guess could be expected. The tea itself, when it finally arrived, was a disappointment - the smoked salmon was vey chewy but most upsetting, all the cakes, including the scones were not home made!! This was very surprising and not at all what we were expecting.

I had to keep asking for drinks, as nobody came and asked us and then when the coffee arrived I had to try and attract the attention of a waitress to obtain some milk. A glass of water I asked for never materialised at all. The hot chocolate wasn't hot, but luke warm so again I had to attract the attention of a waitress.

It was not the enjoyable, relaxing afternoon that I and my family had anticipated, instead, it was an expensive mistake and one that I will not be repeating.

I certainly will not be recommending the Metropole Hotel to my friends and family

I look forward to hearing your comments ----- this is a copy of the email I sent to the Hotel on Monday - I haven't received the courtesy of a reply
