In an elegant country house, 1559 at Sprowston Manor offers a seasonal menu of British and Mediterranean classics. Tall windows dressed with plush drapes survey the Manor’s pretty grounds, with the refined 1559 restaurant partnered by a bar serving wines and cocktails on the terrace.

Part of the Marriott Hotel at Sprowston Manor, 1559 serves spicy chicken, lamb burgers and traditional rib-eye and sirloin steaks from its sizzling grill. Tomato and chilli gnocchi, and taglioni with spinach and salami, add an Italian touch to the 1559 restaurant menu.

Smoked duck with pomegranate, crab cakes and king scallops are among typical starters at 1559. Braised beef shin in Guinness, and rump of lamb with Tuscan vegetables make hearty mains, followed by irresistible warm treacle tart, sticky toffee pudding and profiteroles.

Celebrating regular events including game season and the Oyster Festival, 1559 at Sprowston Manor in Norwich offers the finest seasonal dining. Norwich Train Station is a 12-minute drive from the restaurant.

This is the second time we've visited sprowston manor for afternoon tea and again the service and food was fantastic!! Great value! 2 of our party of 4 had hadn't experienced afternoon tea before but we're very impressed. We will all be visiting in January and are thinking of making it a regular thing.

Multiple food allergies so left a message on the booking page to reflect this with requests for certain foods to be left out. This was checked by staff when I arrived and alternatives added. Previously I have sat in the main restaurant for afternoon tea, but this time we were shown to the small dining area off the bar which was better as dining room is large if not many people in there and small area reflects the intimacy of afternoon tea. An hour slot was just long enough to eat and we weren't rushed out as tables not full, although I'm sure we still wouldn't have been if they had been fully booked, but may be better if able to book an hour and a half. Third time I've been this year and will definitely go again.

Slow service to start with. Thought we'd been forgotten. Once served, all very good. Sandwiches could be a little more exciting considering the price we paid. Bread seemed to be a normal standard white loaf. Cakes and scones were lovely though. Very relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed the experience. A bit pricey though to be honest.

Setting ok and staff lovely. No choice of sandwiches. Food nice but not blown away by choice of cakes as I have in other places

Pleasant restaurant. Staff attitude v. good. Food was good with the exception of 'crab and baby prawn fishcakes' which had no discernible taste of crab just salt.
